Banking-as-a-service has matured from a buzzword into regulated infrastructure. These are the people doing the unglamorous work of making it hold.

Embedded finance spent most of the last decade as a promise. In 2026 it is a compliance discipline, a set of contractual patterns, and a growing share of how small businesses actually move money. The interesting work has shifted from launching yet another card programme to making the underlying model survive regulatory scrutiny, bank partner churn and thin margins.

This article recognises twelve people whose public contributions have shaped that shift. They are not ranked. Each entry includes the reason they were selected and the date their profile was last checked against public sources.

What the list tells us

Three patterns stand out. First, the centre of gravity has moved toward people who understand bank-sponsor relationships as deeply as they understand APIs. Second, the most influential voices are increasingly those publishing frameworks, testimony and post-mortems rather than product launches. Third, Europe and Asia-Pacific are producing more of the regulatory thinking than they did five years ago.

Who is missing

We deliberately exclude people whose work is not publicly verifiable, and we do not include anyone who asked to be listed without meeting the criteria. If you believe someone should be considered for a future update, nominate them.

Methodology

How this list was compiled

Candidates were drawn from public conference programmes, regulatory consultation responses, published research and reader nominations between June and August 2026. Each profile was checked against at least two public sources (typically an official employer page and a professional profile). Inclusion reflects demonstrable public work, not commercial relationships. ExpertProfile.AI does not accept payment for inclusion.

Corrections & nominations

Help us keep this list accurate

Profiles are compiled from public sources and re-checked periodically. If a role has changed or something is wrong, tell us. If someone is missing, nominate them and we will research the public record.
